What To Do On the First Few Days of a Job
66You have just landed a new job and you are trying to prepare so that you know what to do on the first few days of a job. There are many things that you have to do so you need to pick the important things. Otherwise you will spend all of your time on the unimportant things and you will not be prepared. Here are three key things that you need to do on the first few days.
First, meet as many people as you can. The first thing you want to do is meet as many people as you can in the office. Go around and introduce yourself. Introduce yourself to everyone. This includes the office secretary, a receptionist, those that get the mail, and members of lots of other teams. When you go to the kitchen, introduce yourself and get to know Weber is in there. When you go to the bathroom, introduce yourself. Basically, you want to make yourself as comfortable as possible by getting to know as many people as possible in the first few days. This will make your job easier in the long term because you won't have problems with knowing who people are. People tend to help those that they know much more than those that they do not know. By introducing yourself, they will now know who you are and they will now answer your e-mails since they are now familiar with your name.
Ask questions. During the first few days of a job, you will get a lot of information. People will be telling you about everything. They will tell you about new teams, new projects, and everything that they've been working on. If you don't understand something, make sure you ask questions. Even if you understand everything, still ask questions and get to know everything else. The most important thing here is to ask as many questions as possible. In the beginning, people will find that it is OK for you to ask questions. But as you get more experienced, people get more frustrated with others asking questions. Therefore in the beginning, take advantage of the fact that you are new and ask as many questions as possible. This way you will be armed with as much information as you can have.
Understand your responsibilities. Finally, take the first two weeks and get to know what all of your responsibilities are. Learn all of the details. Learn what you have to do and who is involved. Take lots of notes so that you won't forget. Try to do those responsibilities at least once so you know what you are doing. Knowing what is expected of you is very important in order to succeed. The key to success in a job is to know the expectations so you can plan how you'll meet them and how you will move up.
The first few days of a job are very important. Remember to work smarter not harder. Use the strategies listed above to help you make the transition easier.
