My Grandmother’s Red Wedding Shoe

By

Quick Intro

Here is a story about red wedding shoes from my grandmother that I just had to share.

My red wedding shoe was the perfect shoes to match my dress.  It was a shoe that I purchased from a little boutique in New York.  The minute I walked in, I knew I had to have that shoe for my wedding.  I had been on the search for my wedding shoes for a very long time.  First, I looked at all of the white wedding shoes that I could find.  I looked through every single style and every single heel height.  However, after I purchased a few pairs, I would take them back and wear them with my wedding dress and it just wouldn't look right.  So I gave up on the white shoes and decided to look for something else.

First, I decided to look for blue wedding shoes.  The blue would have been the perfect complement to my colors.  I wanted a royal blue that would really stand out.  However, when I took the blue shoes back to where with my white wedding dress, something didn't seem right.  Somehow, it didn't look as sexy as I thought.  I realized that I wanted to look very pretty but also kind of sexy on my wedding day in order to tease my husband.  Therefore, I went and started to look for red shoes.

Red shoes were actually really hard to find.  There are many different types and styles, but most of them did not look elegant.  I needed shoes that looked elegant, but also had that startling red color that would make a huge impact.  I looked at regular red patent keels, red satin wedding shoes, and many strapped the red shoes.  None of them looked right.  Finally, in one of the last boutiques that I went to a long shopping Saturday, I found the perfect red shoes.

These red shoes had a perfect 3 inch heel.  Not too high and not too little.  They were also classic red pumps, but the pumps had a little design on them.  In the front of the shoe were little crystal rhinestones that decorated the shoe and made them look very elegant.  The only downside of this shoe was that it was a little bit out of my price range.  They were $20 and I was only supposed to spend $10.

Luckily, my fiancé felt really happy on the day I asked him if I could spend a little bit more money on my shoes.  An extra hundred dollars was a lot since we have been saving for our wedding for a long time.  However, he knew how much heartache I had gone to finding those red wedding shoes.  So, on Valentine's Day, he surprised me by buying those red shoes for me.  I was so happy!

I wore those red bridal shoes on my wedding day. My husband loved them and I couldn't get over how pretty they were. I also continue to wear those shoes every year on Valentine's Day and on my anniversary. Finally, when my daughter was 21, I gave those red shoes to her and she actually wore them on her wedding day.

Quick update

The daughter in this story is my mother.  She just gave me those red shoes!

Cute story. I like the tradition of getting something "old" on one's wedding day. That opens the opportunity for mother, daughter, and or grandmother to have a special moment on that special day. Thanks for sharing. :)
